The Beattie Foundation D-Day 70: All Hands On Deck
D-Day 70: All Hands On Deck
HMS Belfast The Queen’s Walk, London, SE12 2JH Friday 30th May 2014
In 2011, Trevor Beattie (he of UK advertising royalty) set up The Jack and Ada Beattie Foundation in memory of his late parents. The Foundation’s priorities for charities and individuals are dignity, freedom and sanctuary – backing achievable ambitions and assisting the vulnerable and marginalised facing social injustice and inequality.
This year’s annual Gala was dedicated to raising funds to help return our D Day Veterans to the fabled beaches of Normandy for the final formal commemoration of D Day on 6 June 2014. This exclusive event was held aboard historic HMS Belfast which took part in the Normandy Landings 70 years ago.
Along with D Day Veterans, invited guests included senior officers from the Royal Air Force, Royal Navy, the Army and the inimitable Ray Winston.
Guests were able to explore the ship, stepping back in time to experience what life was like on board during the Second World War.
A champagne reception on the quarter deck was followed by a silver service gourmet dinner, beautifully prepared by talented HMS Belfast’s Head Chef Mr John Ainsworth.
After dinner entertainment was provided by magician Jonny Gould followed by the affable Richard Bacon compering the raffle and auction.
